Mariusz Kapcia (MK):<\/b><\/p>

Hello, it\u2019s really nice to meet you. We have a few questions for you. I don’t think it will be a surprise that we want to ask you about the new album. I think it’s the most interesting thing right now in your career because it’s really, really good, so if you don’t mind, first question.<\/p>

The new album was released recently, in August. What message do you want to convey through the album, and how does it difer from previous ones?<\/b><\/p>

Amy Love (AL):<\/b><\/p>

I think with the album there’s a lot of diferent emotionss. We wanted to explore more vulnerabilitys. On our previous album we explored more super strength, being <\/i>superhuman<\/b><\/i>. It was very at the forefront with our messages. But with this one, I think our headspace was naturally somewhere a little bit different, and we didn’t want to shy away from that. So you have songs like „Monsters” or „Parallel Universe” or „Hummingbird” where it explores vulnerability and a bit more openness, I guess, but at the same time wanting to also have the fun and the light in there too, like <\/i>„N.O.V.A”<\/b><\/i> and „Soprano”.<\/i><\/p>

Mateusz Szulborski (MS):<\/b><\/p>

What was the creation process of Parasites and Butterflies, compared to your previous album, especially regarding working with the producer, Rich Costey?<\/b><\/p>

Georgia South (GS):<\/b><\/p>

We wrote the album together at home in the UK, and then we took all of our demos to America, to Vermont, and met Rich <\/i>Costey<\/b><\/i>. He was so lovely and <\/i>amazing<\/b><\/i>. He didn’t have any ego or anything like that, considering he’s such a huge, big-time producer. He just allowed us to be ourselves. We just had a lot of fun creating gnarly tones and making it sound as wild as possible.<\/i><\/p>

MS:<\/b><\/p>

It’s important to have fun in the studio.<\/p>

MK:<\/b><\/p>

I saw you live three times. It was always in Czech Republic, on Rock For People.<\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

Oh Rock For People, we love that festival so much!<\/i><\/p>

MK:<\/b><\/p>

So do we! First time you were playing there, it was in 2018, at small stage in hangar. It was late and there was maybe 50 people. I didn’t know anything about you then, but you made quite an impression. The next concert you were playing at RFP was at a lot bigger stage, under the tent and it was full of people. Last one was at 2023. It didn’t take much time and you were playing at the main stage at one of the biggest festivals in Czech Republic.<\/p>

How that affected you and how do you feel about that progress?<\/b><\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

I think we always say our live shows feel like home. That’s where we started. Before we wrote songs, we were playing live shows. We wrote a couple of songs, then we just played more <\/i>live<\/b><\/i>. It was all just about being on the road and that\u2019s our journey. It’s nice to see our progress, especially in different areas. The world is so big that you can get lost in it and it\u2019s amazing to come back to certain areas and see the community growing and thriving. We just enjoy live music and we hope that it continues to grow. <\/i><\/p>

MK:<\/b><\/p>

We hope so too because it’s really nice.<\/p>

MS:<\/b><\/p>

About visiting Poland. How do you remember visits and the response from the Polish audience? Do you enjoy coming back to our country?<\/b><\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

We love it! I was telling <\/i>HotWax<\/b><\/i>, who are supporting us in this tour, how amazing the Polish audience are and their energy is just incredible! I remember when we played here last time and it was one of the best shows on the tour because they just give it so much. We can’t wait to be back.<\/i><\/p>

MK:<\/b><\/p>

Yeah, we hope to see you soon in Poland.<\/p>

How do you feel about previous albums, but from today’s perspective? Would you change anything? Or maybe it’s perfect for you?<\/b><\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

I think when we look back, we felt especially in the UK, that we might have been a bit ahead of our time. People didn’t understand that we wanted to do <\/i>with<\/b><\/i> different genres <\/i>we love pop, we love rock, we love metal<\/b><\/i> and at first when we released our first album people were like, where do we put you? We don’t know where to playlist you\u2026 But now, three albums later, it’s nice to see that more bands can mix genres. You can get more playlists, it doesn’t matter, it’s not so tribal with the genres. I think our first album was brilliant because it was quite raw and punky and live which was a great representation of where we were. Supernova, after more experience, we kind of got the sound together and worked with <\/i>Jim<\/b><\/i> <\/i>Abbiss<\/b><\/i> again, which was great. And this album again, it’s always evolving but each one we wouldn’t change because it’s such a key part of our journey and it’s our sound, you know. <\/i><\/p>

MS:<\/b><\/p>

About exploring new styles and techniques, what were your inspirations while working on a new album?<\/b><\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

I think we always take inspiration from what we experienced in life, what we’ve seen from <\/i>touring<\/b><\/i>. This album we wrote straight after touring Supernova and played on so many festivals and shows. So I think, sonically, that was the first time we’d played all these crazy festivals so that definitely went into the writing process of how we wanted things to land. Drops and breakdowns and how fun would it be to play this kind of breakdown at a festivals, so it definitely went into it, which was fun.<\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Question for both of you. Which artists inspires you the most?<\/b><\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

For me personally, there’s lots of different ones but I’d say key ones would’ve been Toni Braxton, Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, New York Dolls, Bette Davis and MC5s<\/i><\/p>

MK:<\/b><\/p>

Oh, nice. I didn’t expect that to be honest but I can see some of it in your music.<\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

Oh, and Beyonce, of course!<\/i><\/p>

MK:<\/b><\/p>

Of course. I think you can hear it a lot in your music.<\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

Which one did you not expect?<\/i><\/p>

MK:<\/b><\/p>

Kate Bush for example.<\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

I think if you listen to some of the stuff vocally you might hear it.<\/i><\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

For me it’d probably be N.E.R.D., Pharrell and The Neptunes to Timberland. like productional things to Skrillex, Beyonce again, The Prodigy, also my dad. He’s super inspiring. He’s always saying to make everything weirder and if it sounds too normal make it sound more crazy. And my mum actually, so there are so many different influences.<\/i><\/p>

MS:<\/b><\/p>

What are your favourite bands and do you ever go to the concerts in your free time? If so, which bands do you like to see live?<\/b><\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

We’ve been blessed to see so many bands. We love seeing Deftones, don’t we?<\/i><\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

Yeah, that’s fun! We used to see Beyonce on her latest tour, Cowboy Carter, which was great. We saw our friend’s band, Kid Kapichi. <\/i><\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

When we’re at festivals we always try and see so many people<\/i>.<\/p>

MS:<\/b><\/p>

Maybe at the Rock For People?<\/p>

MK<\/b><\/p>

At Rock for People I’ve seen you at Nothing More\u2018s concert.<\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

Yeah! Nothing More is a great band! We played at a cruise called ShipRocked and that’s when we met them. <\/i><\/p>

MS:<\/b><\/p>

It’s like a dream to be at the ShipRocked.<\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

It’s so good. You go to the Bahamas, Jamaica! It’s wild!<\/i><\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

It’s crazy!<\/i><\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

It’s a must! You should try and go!<\/i><\/p>

MK:<\/b><\/p>

Maybe someday we will. Thanks for the recommendation.<\/p>

One of the singles from the album – „Monsters” – is very energetic but it’s also… mysterious. What inspired you when writing this song and what does it symbolise other than what we can understand from the lyrics? Maybe there’s something more about that song?<\/strong><\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

It’s basically at a point where, I think, as you grow <\/i>old<\/b><\/i> the world is coming at you. You don’t really understand your traumas or your experiences until you get a little bit older then you can reflect. You have enough time to reflect and then you understand what’s happening. I think at that point you’re being self-aware of your mental health and sometimes you can have your own demons that can eat you alive. I was kind of facing them and also in the song we wanted to make sure that we’re not afraid of the monster. At first you think the monster is confronting you, and that is true, but you can get through it and confront it. So it’s a play on words of that one.<\/i><\/p>

MS:<\/b><\/p>

I have a question about song „N.O.V.A” It refers to your band’s name. Is this the track personal in any way? What did you want to express through it?<\/b><\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

We started <\/i>N.O.V.A<\/b><\/i> with a skit. Amy was doing a vocal skit of the song and I was like, this is so good we should just make this a song so I put music to it and then it just became this <\/i>N.O.V.A<\/b><\/i> anthem that is an ode to our fans. When we say we feel Nova it means we feel good about ourselves and we just want Nova to mean something to anyone. You\u2019re most empowered, whatever that means to you. Just feeling good and strong and confident. And we love the music video for that song, it was fun making it. <\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

MK:<\/b><\/p>

Nova Twins is known for blending genres like grime for example or punk, rap even. Why do you think your music resonates so well not only in UK, but also worldwide?<\/b><\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

I think it’s the energy that we put into the music and into the performance. We give ourselves to it, we give everything on stage, we give everything to the writing process. If we’re feeling shit, we’re feeling good, we always give it our best and I think energy is infectious. It can translate to people and you can pass it on, so when we do shows, that exchange is such an amazing feeling between the audience and us. That’s what rock music is about, that raw energy. People are afraid of rock music, but expressing yourself that way is so productive and it can really release a lot of tension and people come to our shows to do that, so it’s good.<\/i><\/p>

MS:<\/b><\/p>

Are there any films or TV shows that left a strong impression on you, making you think \u201cWOW\u201d after watching?<\/b><\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

(laugh) We’re watching a series but most rock fans will not like it. We’ll say one that we’ve been watching but it’s not very cool it’s called „The Summer I Turned Pretty” and it’s very nostalgic. It’s about your first crushes when you were younger it’s great.<\/i><\/p>

MK:<\/b><\/p>

To be honest I don’t even know what that is.<\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

Your audience will not know but it’s great we love it. It’s just finished it’s been around for 3 years. Aside from that we love the cool ones like Breaking Bad or Squid Games<\/i><\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

I don’t watch any cool movies. I like Bridgerton. (laugh)<\/i><\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

We’re quite mixed. I watch more thrillers and rom com. Amy likes fantasy, like Game of Thrones. <\/i><\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

Happy things (laugh)<\/i><\/p>

MK:<\/b><\/p>

If you hadn’t become musicians, did you have any backup plan or maybe you would feel good at doing something else?<\/b><\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

We love music, it’s our first love. We also love fashion. We make our clothes, which we eventually would like to release, so our audience can wear it too. There’s so much we want to do, but music is the main focus. Music will always be there and we’ll always do that, but we’d like to expand. We’ve got so many ideas we don’t know where to put them, but music is the centre. We didn’t have a backup plan. We didn’t go to uni, we just did the band, a blind leap of faith and we never give up.<\/i><\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

If you have a backup plan, I feel like it’s easier to stop and do the backup plan. When you don’t it’s like hang on for dear life. We do love fashion but that comes hand in hand.<\/i><\/p>

MS:<\/b><\/p>

What are your plans for the rest of the tour following the release of the new album. Can we expect more concerts in Poland or nearby regions?<\/b><\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

We’ll definitely be back in Poland, we love it. Hopefully next year we’ll be back. We’re just excited to complete the tour. We’re having such a good time and we feel very lucky to be touring again. We always write albums, so we can get back on the road and be with everyone and tour and play live. That’s what we love to do. We’re just happy that we keep being able to do what we love and be able to exchange energy. <\/i><\/p>

MK:<\/b><\/p>

Do you plan any festivals next year?<\/b><\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

We’ve already got some in the diary. <\/i><\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

They start booking them right now. <\/i><\/p>

AL:<\/b><\/p>

We’ve got tours, we’ve got stuff we can’t talk about.<\/i><\/p>

GS:<\/b><\/p>

We’ve got something big happening but we can’t say. <\/i><\/p>
